President Nicușor Dan criticized the Constitutional Court's (CCR) decision to postpone once again the ruling on the constitutionality of the normative act that modifies the pensions of magistrates, calling it a "delaying tactic". He emphasized that Romanian society wants and desires a resolution to this issue, which has been under discussion for several months. Dan stated that, although the CCR has the freedom of appreciation, it is essential for the court to take a decision.
The CCR has postponed the ruling for the fifth time, setting a new deadline for February 18, justifying that it needs time to study the documents submitted by the High Court of Cassation and Justice. The latter requested the CCR to refer the case to the European Court of Justice, arguing that the law on service pensions would create discrimination between magistrates and other pension beneficiaries.
