Nicu Ștefănuță, Vice President of the European Parliament, reacted strongly to the recent violent attacks against foreign workers in Romania, emphasizing that these acts are "worthy of aggravated criminal offenses." He compared the situation to what Romanians would feel if they were assaulted abroad, expressing his humiliation at such acts. Ștefănuță called for the attacks on workers from Sri Lanka, Nepal, and other countries to be treated with aggravating circumstances, highlighting the contribution of these workers to the Romanian economy.
The politician wanted to send a message of support to these workers, assuring them that they have a political representative who defends them and that they should feel safe in Romania. His reaction came following recent violent incidents, including an attack on a delivery worker from Bangladesh in Bucharest.
