On September 20, the CLOSER Association will organize the first plogging session in the Nehoiu area of Buzău County, an activity that combines running or brisk walking with waste collection. The event will take place one week before the Buzău 21K Half Marathon and aims to encourage outdoor exercise and environmental protection.
The initiative follows several cleanup campaigns carried out in the Siriu Lake area. Organizers warn that waste abandoned along roadsides and on riverbanks is a recurring problem in the Nehoiu region, known for its natural landscapes.
Plogging is a concept that originated in Sweden, with its name combining the Swedish expression „plocka upp,” meaning „to pick up,” with the term „jogging.” Participants run or walk briskly along a route and collect the waste they encounter.
The event is designed as a symbolic preparation stage for the Buzău 21K Half Marathon, scheduled for September 27 under the umbrella of the „Waves for the Future” cause. Approximately 2,000 runners are expected to take part in the competition, which will provide financial support to eight charitable causes. The CLOSER Association promotes tourism, environmental education, and pollution reduction in the region.
