Nadia Comăneci, a legend of world gymnastics, will be honored on Friday, May 29, at 5:00 PM, by the president of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, according to a statement from the Presidential Administration. This ceremony takes place in the context of the year 2026 being officially declared 'The Year of Nadia Comăneci', marking 50 years since the historic moment when Nadia achieved the maximum score of 10 at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. The former gymnast was also decorated by the Romanian state in 2021, when President Klaus Iohannis awarded her the National Order 'Steaua României' at the rank of Grand Officer. This new distinction highlights Nadia's remarkable contribution to Romanian sports and the history of world gymnastics.
