Vladimir Plahotniuc, former democratic leader of Moldova, was detained in Greece after an Interpol alert. The Moldovan authorities have requested his extradition to face charges of organizing a crime, money laundering and fraud. Russia has also requested his extradition, accusing him of attempting to assassinate rival Renato Usatii. Extradition is Moldova's priority under the law and Plahotniuc faces severe penalties in both countries.
