The Republic of Moldova will receive financial support of 1.7 million euros from Romania to carry out its first forest inventory, announced the Moldovan Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, during a visit to Brașov. This inventory will provide, for the first time, detailed information about the state of forests in the country, including the areas actually covered with forest vegetation and abandoned lands.
It will also assess the number of trees, existing species, the health of the trees, and their age structure, as well as their capacity to produce seeds for regeneration. The inventory will also include data on the amount of carbon stored by forests, thus providing a complete picture of the forest resources in the Republic of Moldova, which currently only has general information regarding the total forest area.
