The modernization works of the Sulina port, carried out by the Free Zone Administration, have entered the final reception stage, aiming to increase the port's capacity to serve maritime and river vessels.
Total investments exceed 267 million lei, most of which are European funds.
Dragoș Ioniță, the general director of the Administration, emphasized that the port is preparing to become a strategic logistics point for the transport of goods between the Danube and the Black Sea, with the potential to transit up to 15 million tons annually. This could generate significant benefits for the Romanian state and for the community in Sulina, including revenues from transit fees.
The port will interconnect various ports in the region, thus contributing to the economic development of the area, despite the lack of railway and road connections.
