Mirabela Grădinaru Calls in New York for Global Rules to Protect Children in the Digital Environment

Mirabela Grădinaru, the partner of President Nicușor Dan, took part in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, in a new stage of the international dialogue on protecting children in the digital environment. The event was organized at the invitation of the First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye, Emine Erdoğan, and aimed to identify common solutions for a safer internet for children.

The meeting, organized under the patronage of Türkiye’s First Lady together with UNICEF and the Office of the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children, continued discussions that began in Ankara.

In her remarks, Mirabela Grădinaru emphasized the need for common basic rules to provide children with real protection, regardless of the country they are in or the platforms they use. She said that responsibility lies with states, technology companies, schools, and families.

“Our children are already living in a borderless digital world. And their protection must be able to cross those borders together with them,” she said. She called for the level of care and safety provided to children online to be similar to that in the physical world and warned that technology must not evolve faster than protective measures.
