In a broadcast on Prima TV, the Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, discussed the ownership of arable land in Romania, mentioning that foreign individuals own only 0.01% of it, while legal entities own between 26% and 28%. He provided the example of a Romanian woman married to an Italian who owns 7,000 hectares, highlighting the complexity of mixed ownership situations.
Barbu was asked whether the sale of land could be considered a national security issue, to which he responded that the land cannot leave the country, as it is leased, not owned. He emphasized that these companies will remain in Romania, will produce, and will pay taxes, thus positively contributing to the country's trade balance.
