Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu and Israel’s ambassador to Romania, Lior Ben Dor, discussed expanding cooperation between the two countries in agriculture at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The main objective is to identify Israeli irrigation technologies, reduce the effects of drought and use or reuse water more efficiently.
The solutions under consideration could be applied to arable crops, vegetable farming and fruit growing. Romania also seeks to facilitate direct contacts between Romanian farmers and Israeli companies that provide advanced technologies. According to Minister Florin Barbu, these collaborations could help reduce production costs and increase the predictability of agricultural activities.
The talks also covered the livestock sector. Romania intends to revive sheep exports following a vaccination campaign agreed with the European Commission and to improve export performance for beef cattle.
Ambassador Lior Ben Dor highlighted the interest in developing direct contacts between the Israeli business community and Romanian farmers. For now, the ministry has not announced any specific projects, investments or a timetable for implementing the technologies discussed.
