MetaWealth, a European investment platform, is expanding its activity in the market of advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Romania, announcing an initial investment of 22 million euros. This will cover a total capacity of 130 MWh, including a 100 MWh autonomous battery system in Dumbrava, Neamț County, and 30 MWh of colocated storage.
The projects are essential to meet the grid's flexibility needs, considering that Romania generates almost half of its electricity from renewable sources but has limited storage capacity. The first 30 MWh will become operational in the third quarter of the year, and the entire capacity will be active by the fourth quarter.
MetaWealth plans to develop an additional capacity of 650 MWh, attracting institutional investors and participating in international real estate events. This initiative comes in a context where the installed capacity in BESS systems has significantly increased over the last decade and is expected to continue to grow.
