On Wednesday morning, the mayor of Slatina, Mario De Mezzo, arrived at the Prosecutor's Office accompanied by his lawyer, where he confirmed that he is a defendant in the case known as 'Streharebi Cemetery'.
The investigation has also been extended to some employees of the Local Police, including the head of the institution, Cristinel Rădoi, and three other police officers, who have also become defendants.
The case was opened following incidents at the end of January, when representatives of the Slatina City Hall and local police intervened at Streharebi Cemetery in the context of a conflict with the Ecumenic Funerar company.
The Prosecutor's Office has investigated several possible offenses, including abuse of office and harassment. De Mezzo is accused of abuse of office, and being a defendant does not automatically imply guilt, benefiting from the presumption of innocence.
Meanwhile, the Slatina City Hall and Ecumenic Funerar are involved in litigation related to the management of the cemetery.
