Marius Budăi, former minister, criticized the government led by Prime Minister Bolojan, considering that the current economic situation is proof of the failure of austerity. In a Facebook post, Budăi denounced the increase in VAT as a "budgetary trick" and explained that Romania is in its fifth consecutive month of declining consumption, which could lead to a technical recession.

He mentioned that his previous warnings were not taken seriously and emphasized the urgent need to implement the PSD Program for stimulating investments, adopting social measures, and introducing progressive taxation. Budăi also called for a review of fiscal policies and the use of tax exemptions to stimulate the economy.
