Marine drone destroyed near Neptun Deep / MapN clarifications

The maritime drone loaded with explosives that was destroyed on Thursday by the Romanian Army near the Neptun Deep platform was detected around 06:28 by a commercial ship, the Ministry of National Defense stated in a press release.

We remind that two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force were launched and intervened on Thursday in the case of a small maritime drone located in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Romania, near the Neptun Alpha platform, about 80 nautical miles east of Constanța.

One of the F-16 aircraft engaged the target and fired its onboard cannon at it, hitting the target.

"The presence of the drifting maritime drone was reported around 06:28 by a commercial ship. A Coast Guard vessel, with an EOD team from the Romanian Naval Forces on board, is moving towards the area where the maritime drone is located, to carry out checks. The mission is ongoing," the MApN statement shows.

The announcement of the destruction of the maritime drone came from the interim Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, around 13:00.
