A 32-year-old man from Bistreț commune, Dolj County, who was wanted internationally for several robberies committed in Venice, was apprehended by police and detained for 24 hours. He is due to appear before the Craiova Court of Appeal, which will decide whether to issue an arrest warrant.
He was identified on October 8, following an operation conducted by officers from the Dolj Criminal Investigations Service to locate wanted persons or individuals subject to preventive measures. The operation was based on information obtained through cooperation with the International Police Cooperation Centre within the General Romanian Police Inspectorate.
Italian judicial authorities issued a European arrest warrant for the man, with a view to his surrender to Italy. According to the General Romanian Police Inspectorate, on January 24, 2026, he allegedly robbed several people in Venice.
The man was brought before the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Craiova Court of Appeal, which issued an order for his detention for 24 hours. He was placed in the Dolj County Police Inspectorate’s Preventive Detention and Arrest Centre and will appear before the court to determine the measures required for the surrender procedure.
