A man from Călan was arrested after he threw a dog from a balcony. The animal was hospitalized for medical care.

On November 2, 2025, the Călan City Police was alerted via SNUAU 112 that a man had allegedly thrown a dog from the second floor. The police confirmed the incident, finding a small dog, immobilized on the cement, showing signs of suffering.

The man was detained for 24 hours, and a criminal case was opened against him for the intentional injury of animals. The Animal Protection Bureau police intervened, determining that the animal, a female Bichon of approximately 5 months, was transported to a veterinary clinic for treatment. Since the beginning of the year, authorities in Hunedoara have rescued 29 animals.
