The Ministry of Justice provides service housing for more than 80 magistrates, lawyers and notaries who pay very low rents. Of these, 36 are special pensioners, some of whom keep their housing even after leaving the system. A recent law bans the maintenance of service housing after retirement but does not affect active contracts. The ministry has not released the names of the tenants, but sources have identified several, including judges and former magistrates. The ministry also settles open-market housing rents for its employees.
