Mădălin Hodor told Digi24 that Ion Iliescu must be recognized as a top communist leader before 1989 and that he divided Romanian society after 1989. Hodor believes that legal redress in Iliescu-related cases is overdue and that the files have been delayed. He also mentioned Iliescu's contribution to maintaining relations with Russia, saying that Romania would not have left the Soviet sphere of influence if the USSR had not dismembered. Hodor stresses that Iliescu acted in the interests of his political power, not from a pro-Western orientation.
