Luca Niculescu has convened a working meeting for Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Victoria Palace to establish urgent measures regarding safety in schools. The meeting is taking place after two violent incidents occurred this week, in Bistrița and Pitești.
On Monday, at a school in Bistrița, a seventh-grade student injured a teacher and a classmate with a pocketknife. On Thursday, a 15-year-old teenager entered a high school in Pitești carrying a machete and assaulted his classmates.
The Minister of Education, Sorin Costreie, is also attending the discussions and warned that teachers and students are insufficiently protected. He called for the urgent hiring of approximately 1,000 security guards to supplement staffing at schools considered vulnerable.
President Nicușor Dan said that the attacks represent warning signs and called for prioritizing safety in classrooms, training teachers for intervention, and real access to psychological counseling. The head of state also included among the priorities the protection of minors online, as well as closer dialogue among parents, students, and authorities.
