Referendum in Rășinari concerning mining operations / The advisory vote runs until 23:00

The three polling stations in the commune of Rășinari, Sibiu County, opened on Sunday at 7:00 a.m. for the local referendum on mining operations. Voters are expected at the polls until 11:00 p.m. to answer “YES” or “NO” to the question: “Do you agree with any mining operation within the administrative-territorial boundaries of the commune of Rășinari?”

The local consultation was initiated in the context of the project of Mineral Proiect Invest SA, which intends to extract magnesite rocks in the Valea Dobra area. The mayor of the commune, Bucur Bogdan, announced that he had issued a negative urban planning certificate for the project, citing the legal proceedings related to organizing the referendum on November 8, 2026.

The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) and the Special Telecommunications Service ensure the operation of the system for monitoring voter turnout and preventing illegal voting. The data are available in real time on the official AEP website.

For validation, at least 30% of the approximately 4,300 registered voters must participate, that is, nearly 1,290 people. At the same time, validly cast votes must represent at least 25% of the total, respectively approximately 1,075 votes. The result will be determined by the majority of validly cast votes.
