According to recruitment firms, physically prepared lifeguards are becoming a rarity on the Romanian coast, despite attractive salaries ranging between 3,700 and 6,000 lei net. Vasile Bortaș, the head of the Lifeguard Service 23 August – Mangalia, stated that he needs 116 lifeguards, but cannot find sufficiently trained people.

The situation is similar in Năvodari, where Alexandru Zderea mentioned that 75 lifeguards are needed to cover the beach. Those who wish to be hired must pass difficult swimming and physical endurance tests, but many give up before reaching the beach. On the coast, the Lifeguard services need over 450 employees, including medical staff, and the employee shortage is alarming with only three weeks before the season opens on June 1.

This personnel crisis affects the safety of tourists, considering the particularities of the Black Sea, which presents significant risks.
