The city of Cluj-Napoca will implement an aerial surveillance system for public safety, using a state-of-the-art drone worth 40,000 euros. Dubbed the 'smart eye of the city', the drone will monitor the city and transmit live images to the local police command center. It will operate at an altitude of up to 7,000 meters, with a flight time of nearly one hour and the ability to fly both during the day and at night. The drone is equipped with an infrared sensor capable of detecting body temperature, facilitating the identification of missing persons or those committing crimes. Florin Șandor, a representative of the Cluj-Napoca City Hall, explained that the drone can track vehicles involved in crimes in real-time, fixing a laser point on the license plate. Additionally, the system will be used to identify illegal waste dumping and to manage crowds at summer festivals, allowing for rapid intervention in case of risky situations. Emil Boc, the mayor of the city, emphasized the importance of this technology for the safety of the community.
