The Governor of the National Bank of Romania, Mugur Isărescu, stated that Romania has a country project nearing completion, represented by accession to the OECD, and the next strategic objective will be the adoption of the euro. Isărescu emphasized that this process requires balancing the economy and reducing the major fiscal deficit.
He highlighted the importance of meeting the nominal criteria for adopting the euro in a sustainable manner, mentioning that it is not enough for only Bucharest to be prepared, but the entire country must benefit from development. The governor pointed out that social and economic pressures from the poorer regions of the country influence the process of adopting the euro, and investments in education, performance, and solid partnerships are essential for the future of the Romanian financial system. The conference 'Risks and Opportunities in the Romanian Financial System' was organized by BNR and the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest.
