The interviews for the position of chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office next to the High Court of Cassation and Justice were completed on February 23, with Cristina Chiriac, the current head of DNA Iași, and military prosecutor Bogdan Pîrlog as candidates. Chiriac emphasized that she also wants to contribute to strengthening the Public Ministry, considering the current challenges, such as resource deficits and increased social expectations.
She mentioned that the decline in Romanians' trust in prosecutors is due to insufficient reactions in situations of public interest and inadequate crisis management. Chiriac proposed to encourage prosecutors to take on leadership roles through dialogue and institutional support.
Regarding the statute of limitations for criminal liability, Chiriac stated that the prompt resolution of cases is essential, prioritizing those with almost complete evidence. She also proposed the efficient use of plea agreements and the principle of opportunity to avoid unjustified criminal actions. Chiriac highlighted the importance of investigating serious crimes, such as tax evasion and corruption, to ensure effective and responsible justice.
