The engineers at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany have developed an innovative material that combines comfort with protection, having the appearance of regular clothing but behaving like armor. This soft and lightweight material becomes rigid upon impact, stopping bullets and cutting blades without breaking. With a thickness of just 3 millimeters, it is made from a matrix of nanoparticles and fibers similar to Kevlar, which coagulate quickly under force. In ballistic tests, a t-shirt made from this material stopped 9-millimeter bullets and withstood cuts and impacts. Its flexibility and the ability to be machine washed make it a promising option for personal safety devices, eliminating the discomfort of traditional bulletproof gear.
