INS: Romania's natural increase remains negative in June

According to INS data, in June 2026, the number of deaths increased by 1.6% compared to June 2025, reaching 19,039, while births recorded a growth of 12.9%, with 11,792 children born.


The natural increase was negative, with -7,247 people, which means that the number of deaths was 1.6 times higher than that of births. The most affected age group was people aged 80 and over, representing 41.4% of the total deaths.


Also, in urban areas, the number of deaths increased by 4.7% compared to the previous year, while in rural areas it decreased by 1.5%. In June 2026, there were 8,777 marriages and 2,374 divorces recorded.


Compared to June 2025, births decreased by 7.5%.
