Mayor Mihai Chirica announced that over 46,000 liters of drinking water have been collected to support the municipalities of Bălți and Soroca in the Republic of Moldova, affected by the pollution of the Nistru River following Russian attacks on the hydroelectric power plant in Novodnestrovsk. The first shipment, of 21,600 liters, was sent to Bălți on Monday, and the second, of 25,069 liters, arrived in Soroca on Wednesday. The water has been directed to kindergartens and schools. Chirica emphasized the progress of the Republic of Moldova in recent years, mentioning that it has surpassed Romania in several economic indicators.
Romania has provided free international assistance to the Republic of Moldova to manage the pollution incident, including equipment and a specialized intervention team. Support actions are being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aiming to limit the impact of pollution on the environment.
