Hundreds of fish have been found dead in the Bega Canal in Timis County and the Environmental Guard has launched checks following the incident. Authorities suspect that heavy rains caused Timișoara's sewage treatment plant to activate the emergency system, which led to untreated sewage being discharged into the river. This caused the observed fish mortality. Checks continue to manage the pollution and assess the environmental impact.
