On Monday, April 28, a massive power blackout left several countries on the Iberian Peninsula without electricity, causing darkness in cities and disrupting public transportation. Romanian energy minister Sebastian Burduja said the situation in Romania was under control, assuring citizens that there was no cause for concern. He emphasized the seriousness of the phenomenon, noting that Romania had experienced a blackout only once, in 1977, and avoided speculating on the causes of the incidents in Spain and Portugal.
