The High Court of Cassation and Justice decided, on Wednesday, to maintain the preventive arrest of the mercenary Horațiu Potra, while his son, Dorian Potra, and his nephew, Alexandru Potra, will remain under house arrest. The decision is final and was made following the rejection of the appeals filed by the three. They were arrested in November 2024 for attempting actions against the constitutional order and violating the arms and ammunition regime.
Potra was brought back to the country from Dubai in November 2025, and the indictment mentions that he and 21 other defendants, including former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, were accused of plans to destabilize Romania. Investigators discovered that Potra organized a paramilitary group that intended to carry out violent actions during the protests, thus endangering national security. Their actions were considered serious threats to the constitutional order and fundamental social values.
