On April 10, 2026, Orthodox Christians celebrate Good Friday, a profound and sad day dedicated to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In churches, the 12 Gospels are read and the Epitaph is taken out, while the faithful observe a strict fast, avoiding noisy activities. This day is associated with the Holy Martyrs Terentius, Pompeius, Africanus, Maximus, and Dimas, who were persecuted in the 3rd century. Good Friday is the last Friday of Great Lent and is also known as Passion Friday or Black Friday. Traditions say that nettles should not be eaten and vinegar should not be used, as they contributed to the sufferings of the Savior. Additionally, washing, mowing, and any agricultural work are prohibited. The faithful are encouraged to participate in the Service of the Epitaph, and at the end of the service, women light candles at graves. It is believed that observing these traditions brings health and spiritual protection. In some areas, it is said that those who immerse themselves in cold water three times will be healthy all year. Good Friday is a day of reflection and piety, preparing the faithful for the Resurrection of Christ.
