The Giurgiu Cemetery Administration has initiated an inventory action of the burial plots, considering their lack in the municipal cemeteries. Representatives of the institution announced that unclaimed or neglected plots, where concession fees have not been paid, will be redistributed to other individuals. George Țigănilă, the head of the Administration, explained that if the heirs do not respond to the notifications sent, the plots will be released through exhumation, and the remains will be transferred to the ossuary of the Saint George Nou cemetery. In the municipality of Giurgiu, there are three state cemeteries with approximately 40,000 burial plots, but currently, there are no available plots, except for those for emergencies. To solve the problem, the Local Council has approved the establishment of a private cemetery with a capacity of up to 3,000 plots, but citizens are complaining about the high fees charged in the existing private cemeteries.
