AUR leader George Simion said that the Moldovan government facilitated "electoral tourism" by allocating 100 million euros to buy the votes of Basarabian Romanians. He also accuses the French authorities of manipulating social networks to influence the vote. Simion called for a hearing of the founder of the Telegram app, citing pressure from the French state. Following the elections, Nicușor Dan was declared the winner with 53.6% of the votes, compared to 46.4% for Simion.
