A 58-year-old woman from Galați died in hospital shortly after falling ill at her workplace, a hypermarket in the city, approximately two weeks ago. The family claims that the woman, who had known heart problems, collapsed after an argument with her superiors and alleges that the ambulance was called late.
According to relatives, the woman had been complaining for approximately two months about verbal and emotional abuse at work. On the day of the incident, she was allegedly asked to move from the checkout to one of the store’s departments and perform tasks that were not part of her responsibilities. The family says that the woman was reprimanded and taken to the manager’s office, where the discussion allegedly lasted approximately one hour. After she left, she felt unwell.
Colleagues tried to help her; however, instead of calling the emergency number immediately, they allegedly contacted the victim’s sister first. Later, a SMURD emergency crew was requested, but the woman died after arriving at the hospital.
Relatives filed complaints with the Police and the Territorial Labor Inspectorate. Investigations are under way into involuntary manslaughter and to establish the circumstances in which the possible workplace accident occurred. The family’s allegations will be verified by investigators.
