A 28-year-old inmate escaped on Wednesday, August 21, from a work site of the Baia Mare Penitentiary, informing colleagues that he was heading home to kill his wife. After nearly 48 hours, he was caught on Friday, following a search operation conducted by approximately 170 members of the law enforcement forces.

The man was located on a vacant lot near the municipality of Baia Mare, where he was hiding after contacting known individuals to help him leave the country. The police mobilized personnel from various institutions, including the Gendarmerie and canine teams, to narrow down the search area. The inmate was immobilized and arrested without incident. According to the spokesperson for the Penitentiary, the escape occurred during work on a construction site, and the man was caught due to the rapid mobilization of law enforcement forces.
