The national #SiguranțaOnline project provides students, parents and teachers with free resources for recognizing and preventing risks in the digital environment. The materials can be used at home or at school and address online fraud, suspicious messages, malicious software, cyberbullying and manipulated content.

The initiative responds to a situation highlighted by the study “Children’s Online Safety,” conducted by the Institute for Research and Crime Prevention within the Romanian Police. According to the research, one in four children does not talk to anyone about negative experiences encountered online. Students face exposure to inappropriate materials, device infections, compromised accounts and messages containing sexual content.

For children and teenagers, interactive quizzes, “The Tricky Test,” the “The Websters” story series, the video “The Family Password” and the “Safe Superhero’s Guide,” developed by the Romanian Police, are available. Parents can use quizzes about malware and fraud, the DNSC guides on parental control and digital protection, as well as the digital vigilance test.

Teachers can integrate the materials into homeroom classes for discussions about fake accounts, fraud and ways to seek help. Specialists recommend clear family rules, secure passwords, two-factor authentication, downloading applications only from official sources and verifying urgent messages through separate channels. Dialogue with a trusted adult remains essential. The resources are available at sigurantaonline.ro, and incidents can be reported to 1911 or at pnrisc.dnsc.ro.
