Florin Manole, the Minister of Labor, stated on Digi24 that the increase in property taxes has had a significant impact on Romanians with low incomes, emphasizing the need for progressive taxation as a solution for a fairer tax system. He acknowledged that, although he does not own properties, his family has felt the increase in taxes, with his wife paying a considerably higher amount compared to the previous year. Manole highlighted that the issue is not the impact on high-income families, but the disproportionate effect on those with limited financial resources.

The minister argued that progressive taxation is applied in many civilized countries within the European Union and would help reduce the tax burden on low-income individuals. He also mentioned the need to improve tax collection and to sanction non-compliance with labor laws. Manole concluded that progressive taxation, supported by reports from the European Commission and the World Bank, could generate significant additional revenue for the state budget.
