A 45-year-old firefighter from Caraș-Severin County has been hospitalized in the Infectious Diseases Department of the Emergency County Hospital Reșița with suspected hantavirus infection. Biological samples have been sent to the Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest for diagnosis confirmation. The patient recently traveled to Serbia and presented with persistent fever upon returning to the country. The hospital manager, Cristian Toader, mentioned that the patient does not show any pulmonary or renal impairments, which suggests a mild form of the disease. This suspicion arises after the confirmation of another case of hantavirus infection in western Romania, in Arad, which is not linked to the outbreak on the cruise ship from South America. The National Institute of Public Health has assured that the circulating strains in Romania are not transmitted from person to person. Internationally, there are concerns related to hantavirus, following the deaths of three passengers during the MV Hondius cruise.
