On Friday afternoon, a fire broke out in an apartment located on the first floor of a building on Mihai Viteazu Boulevard in Giurgiu. Approximately 30 people self-evacuated, and five were assisted by firefighters to exit the building's staircase. The apartment owner was not home at the time of the fire, and neighbors noticed the smell of smoke and called 112. Firefighters found that the fire was occurring in the kitchen, destroying the table and chairs, and the walls were impregnated with smoke. Additionally, several belongings in the home were affected.
At the end of the intervention, firefighters determined that the fire was most likely caused by a candle left unattended. The crews managed to save a cat that was in the burning apartment.
