The draft law on local public administration reform, currently under public debate, provides for severe penalties for unauthorized constructions, including garages and annexes. Fines will vary between 1,000 and 100,000 lei, depending on the seriousness of the offense. Also, buildings with a permit but which do not comply with the regulations will be fined between 5,000 and 20,000 lei. This measure aims to strengthen local authorities' control over construction.
