The European Commission has approved funds for Romania, generating negative reactions in Hungary, where there are accusations of favoritism towards Romania by Brussels.

The European Commission recently decided to allocate significant funds for Romania, which has provoked strong reactions in the press in Hungary. Hungarian publications claim that the President of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen, favors Romania, highlighting an unprecedented shift in approach in Brussels. This reaction comes in the context of European funds for Hungary being suspended due to violations of the rule of law principles by the government of Viktor Orban.

Economics professor Christian Năsulea explained that Romania, through cooperation with European institutions and a pro-European direction, has managed to obtain these funds, despite the need for internal reforms. He emphasized that, although Romania is not perfect, recent progress suggests an improvement in relations with the EU. Năsulea considered that the reactions from Hungary reflect internal discontent related to political leadership and will not affect bilateral relations with Romania.
