Most EU countries, including Romania, have called on the European Commission to relax regulations on deforestation, saying their producers face a competitive disadvantage. The anti-deforestation law, which will require proof that products do not come from deforestation, has already been delayed, and countries are now asking for the rules to apply only where deforestation risks are significant. This could lead to European producers relocating to foreign businesses to avoid extra costs.
