The European Prosecutor's Office in Cluj-Napoca has requested the trial of a company and its director for fraud in a 114,000 EUR EU research project.

The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) in Cluj-Napoca has filed a request for prosecution at the Court in Iași against a company and its director, suspected of fraud in a research and innovation project funded by the European Union, worth 114,000 EUR. The project, aimed at supporting competitiveness and economic recovery, focused on the development of advanced inorganic materials (AIM) for high-performance technological applications.

The investigation revealed that, between 2018 and 2024, the defendants used false documents to illegally obtain funding, including simulating the purchase of a software license. The project, with a total budget of approximately 2 million euros, was funded through the Operational Competitiveness Program 2014-2020, managed by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of Romania. The actions of the defendants contravene the objectives of the program, which included strengthening economic research and innovation.
