Radu Miruță, the interim Minister of Defense, stated that a drone was observed in the civil port of Constanța around 6:00 AM, but Ukrainian authorities informed Romania about losing control of it only at 10:00 AM. Miruță emphasized that monitoring incidents in the port area is not the responsibility of the Romanian Army, but of the Coast Guard and the Naval Authority.
Following the notification, teams in the area were withdrawn to prevent damage. Miruță discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart, requesting faster communication in such situations.
Romanian authorities, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, are seeking explanations from Ukraine to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Regarding the explosive payload of the drone, Miruță mentioned that a detailed expertise is difficult to carry out after the explosion, but indicated that the drone could carry up to 300 kg of explosives. The responsibility for detecting the drone lies with the Coast Guard, which uses radars to monitor the area.
