A bill put up for public debate by the Ministry of Development provides for tightening the rules for drivers in Romania who do not pay their fines on time.

Authorities will inform drivers about the obligation to pay and the risk of losing their driving rights. The license can only be returned after proof of payment of the fines. Additionally, the suspension period of the license can be reduced, but only if the holder pays the fine, without the need to pay local taxes, as was previously stipulated. The project no longer provides for increasing unpaid fines, abandoning the idea of applying penalties of up to 60% for non-payment. These changes are included in the version agreed upon by the Coalition and are now under public consultation.
