On the agenda of the meeting on January 29 of the General Council of Bucharest Municipality is a draft resolution proposing an increase in fares for public transport. Thus, the price of a 90-minute journey could rise from 3 lei to 5 lei, while the 24-hour and 1-month subscriptions will have higher rates, from 8 lei to 14 lei and from 80 lei to 100 lei, respectively.

The mayor, Ciprian Ciucu, emphasized the need to modernize the tram lines, which are over 40 years old and pose risks to transport safety. Recently, the City Hall obtained funding of 265.5 million euros for the rehabilitation of tram lines and 76.5 million euros for the purchase of new trams, thus highlighting the importance of improving public transport infrastructure in the Capital.
