DIICOT prosecutors are conducting searches at the Constanța Customs in a case of smuggling with petroleum products and tax evasion.

On Thursday, DIICOT prosecutors initiated a large-scale search operation, executing 37 warrants at a port operator in Constanța, at the offices of several companies, and at the homes of individuals from various counties. The investigation targets 11 commercial companies suspected of cross-border smuggling of diesel fuel and tax evasion between 2022 and 2025. DIICOT is investigating the establishment of an organized criminal group that uses falsified customs and commercial documents to distort the petroleum products market. Evidence suggests that these practices have led to disproportionate profits for intermediary companies and omissions recorded in accounting, thus facilitating tax evasion. The operation is supported by the gendarmes of the Special Intervention Brigade of the Gendarmerie. The checks are currently underway.
