Diana Șoșoacă, a pro-Russian MEP and leader of the extremist party SOS, caused a scandal during the celebration of Europe Day by tearing the flag of the European Union alongside supporters.
The moment, filmed by those present, ended with applause after Șoșoacă urged people to claim their 'part of Europe', referring to Romania's independence. This action took place in the context of the pro-European government led by Ilie Bolojan being overthrown on May 5 by a motion of censure supported by the extremist parties AUR and SOS.
Additionally, before the incident, Șoșoacă was present at the Russian Embassy, where she celebrated Victory Day, thus demonstrating her ties to Russia and support for Vladimir Putin. These events highlight the political tensions in Romania and the opposition to European integration.
