Declic is calling for a referendum on whether pensions in Romania should respect the principle of contributory pensions and have a uniform retirement age for all citizens. Special pensions, especially those of magistrates, are criticized for large discrepancies with public pensions. For example, the average pension of a magistrate is 25,000 lei, while the average public pension is only 2,811 lei. Special pensions cost €3.5 billion annually, representing 1% of Romania's GDP. Declic considers it unacceptable that pensions do not reflect the real contributions of the beneficiaries.
