Daniela Tontsch, the president of the National Council for Disability in Romania, criticized recent government measures regarding tax reductions for people with disabilities, stating that they do not take into account their real needs. Tontsch emphasized that individuals with disabilities who live alone or come from single-parent families are left aside, and the proposed measures are insufficient and inadequate. She rejected the introduction of thresholds for tax reductions, stating that the government has violated the principle of community consultation by making decisions without involving the affected individuals. Tontsch pointed out that recent changes in the criteria for classifying disability levels have led to the incorrect classification of many patients with serious conditions, thus affecting their rights. Her criticisms also extended to the elimination of tax exemptions and the indexing of allowances, considering that the social aids announced by the government do not compensate for the losses suffered. Tontsch condemned the rhetoric of politicians who stigmatize people with disabilities, emphasizing that it contributes to a misguided perception.
